We regret to inform you of the death of Retired Lt. Joseph P. Burkhardt on Thursday, July 21, 2016.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Burkhardt family and their friends at this difficult time.  Funeral arrangements have been finalized at the Burbage Funeral Home, 108 William Street, Berlin, Maryland 21811.  Visitation will be held on Monday, July 25, 2016 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM.  The funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 1:00 PM with a reception will follow at the Atlantic Hotel, 2 N. Main Street, Berlin, Maryland 21811.

We all love camp and it holds a special place in our hearts for the time we have spent there and what it has meant to so many people. Obituary

Ocean Pines – Lt. Joseph Paul Burkhardt (MSP Ret) passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Edna Parrish Burkhardt. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Irene Burkhardt, and children, Scott Burkhardt of Ocean Pines and Chris Burkhardt and his wife Dena of Salisbury. He was the devoted grandfather of Brandon, Rachel and Aubrey. He was preceded in death by son Eric Burkhardt in 1994, brother Charles Burkhardt, sister Ann Pelle, and special cousin-in-law Paul Mooney. Also surviving is his sister Martha Lee Holden of Towson, MD.
 
Lt. Burkhardt has been a 25 year member of the Maryland State Police, retiring in 1985. Joe was an easy going person who made all around him feel comfortable. He had many great stories and silly jokes he loved to tell again and again (…and again). He loved meeting new people, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him
 
A memorial service will be held on Monday July 25, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Deacon Charles Weschler will officiate.
