Join MTA Lodge #20 on July 10 for the USMC Sunset Parade MTA Lodge 20 is inviting all MTA members and their families to join us on Tuesday, July 10th for a trip to Washington, DC to see the US Marine Corps Sunset Parade. The event is a one-hour performance by “The Commandant's Own" - The United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps and precision drill by the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. The Sunset Parade is open to the public at no charge. Because of construction, the parade will be held at the Lincoln Memorial instead of the Iwo Jima Memorial. The spacious steps on the Lincoln Memorial and surrounding lawns provide ample room for you to bring lawn chairs for an informal viewing. No other type of seating is available, except for invited guests of the Parade Reviewing Officials. If you have never witnessed this event in person, you should put it on your bucket list. We have chartered a 56 passenger luxury bus that will leave the Westminster VFW Post at 16:15 hours and arrive at the Lincoln Memorial by 18:15 hours and will return to Westminster by 22:00 hours. The cost is only $10 for MTA members and their families. Non-members are $20 Bring your own food, snacks and lawn and lawn chairs. This will be the first of Lodge 20's family friendly events and we hope you can join us. Was at St. John School this morning when I saw a bulletin board with student projects that caught my eye. The board was full of Hero projects where students wrote about a person who embodied a hero to them. As I scanned the papers/ pictures I spotted a familiar face. Check out the picture below. So very true of such a special person! (Student’s name redacted for FERPA)

Upon taking the helm as commander of the Westminster Barrack a little over a month ago, LT. Rebecca Bosley discovered the Barrack’s Trooper and NCO of the year plaques stored in a closet, out of site. Additionally, there were multiple plaques and none of them had been updated in nearly 10 years. LT. Bosley made it a personal mission to update and return the plaques to be displayed in a place of prominence in the Barrack as they should be. MTA Lodge #20 was proud to sponsor the effort and cover the cost of the project. Thanks to the vision of LT Bosley and the beautiful design and CNC work of Team Leader Industries, new plaques have been made for both Trooper and NCO of the Year to not only recognize all of the past winners, but to also recognize future honorees as they uphold the highest standards of the Maryland State Police and perpetuate the legacy that earned us the title, “Maryland’s Finest”. Those that will be listed on these plaques served our community with integrity, service, and fairness, and their legacy should be ever remembered as an example for those that follow in their footsteps. Thanks to all who had a part in this joint effort. Supporting our Troopers is what the Maryland Troopers Association is all about. Maryland Trooper's Association Lodge #20 is at Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our public safety brothers and sisters in the York Township Fire Department who lost two firefighters in the line of duty earlier thus evening. Firefighters from the York Township Fire Department had responded back to the scene of a warehouse fire to identify and extinguish hotspots that had rekindled from a 3 alarm blaze that started the day before. In the course of operations, a structural collapse occurred and several firefighters were trapped and injured. Rescue efforts were initiated and the firefighters were extricated from the rubble. The York Township Fire Department has reported that two of their firefighters caught in the collapse have succumbed to their injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the family and friends of Firefighter Zach Anthony and Firefighter Ivan Flanscha as well as those who were injured and the York, Pennsylvania community.
