Congratulations to Cpl. Brian Schweers, MSP-Golding Ring/ S.T.A.T.E., on his silver medal performance at the 2016 Can-Am Police-Fire Games.  The Games are being held July 16-24, 2016.  The Games promote physical fitness and camaraderie among emergency and protective services personnel and their agencies in the United States and Canada.  The games are contested every 2 years in alternating locations in the United States and Canada. The games typically host 1000 athletes in 30 different sports disciplines. 
 
Cpl. Schweers traveled to Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada to represent the Maryland State Police in a quest to take the title of fittest Police Officer, Firefighter or Corrections Officer in the US and Canada. Cpl. Schweers  competes in Crossfit, which tests the athlete’s strength, and endurance using weighted and body weight exercises. This particular competition included an Endurance Test, Strength Test, and 2- Metabolic Conditioning Tests. More specifically, Cpl. Schweers competed in 4 grueling Workouts of the Day (WOD) contested over the course of one day.  Cpl Schweers took 2nd place in the 1st , 2nd and 3rd WOD.  Cpl. Schweers took 1st in the 4th and final WOD, in which he hoisted a 315lb power clean to achieve his place in the standings.  When all scores were tallied,  Cpl. Schweers missed winning the Gold Medal by 1 point.  He earned the 2nd place Silver Medal in a very competitive pro/elite division. Congratulations to Cpl. Schweers on his performance while  representing the Maryland State Police.
