The Maryland Troopers Association regrets to inform you that Sgt (Ret) Gregory Barnhart passed away on May 2, 2022 at the age of 71. Sgt Barnhart retired in 2003 after 26 years of service to MSP. Please keep the Barnhart family in your prayers.

Gregory L. Barnhart, 71, passed away at Mount Sinai Hospital in NY, NY on May 2, 2022. He was fighting liver cancer. Born April 12, 1951 in Hagerstown, MD, Greg was the son of Elwood and Thelma (Trumpower) Barnhart. Greg graduated from Waynesboro H.S. and Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in criminology. Greg and his wife, Mary (Grammerstorf) Barnhart were married on June 9, 1973 in Waldwick, NJ. He was a Maryland State Trooper for 26 years and achieved Trooper First Class, Corporal and Sergeant level promotions. Greg, his brother, Lonnie, and father owned and operated Barnhart’s Lawn and Garden Center in Waynesboro, PA. After retirement, Greg worked at L.E. Barnhart Security.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time by the pool and the beach. Greg is survived by his wife, Mary Barnhart; daughters, LeAnne B. Barnhart, and wife, Samantha Dalious, of Chambersburg, and Kelly L. Barnhart McCarty, and wife, Jerrica McCarty, of Pasadena; sister-in-law, Kimberly (Hull) Barnhart; her daughter, Stephanie (Barnhart) Smith, and husband, Edward Smith; one uncle, James Trumpower; and a number of cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lonnie E. Barnhart, and many aunts and uncles.

Services will be held 3pm Saturday, May 7th, 2022 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Allen Robinson will officiate. Online condolences are accepted at www.minnichfh.com.
