Victims’ names released in Public Works fatal crash
The names of the Worcester County Public Works employees injured in a collision while they were working — one of whom was killed — have been released.
Scott Patrick Tatterson, 48, of Pocomoke City, is the person who died after being hit by a 2010 Kia, according to Lt. Edward Schreier of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office. Wade Kenneth Pusey, 23, of Seaford, was critically injured, Schreier wrote in an email.
The driver’s name hasn’t yet been released.
The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, at Greenbackville Road near Ticktown Road in Stockton, at about 1:20 p.m. Monday.
Preliminary investigation indicates that two Worcester County Public Works Roads Division employees were working on the side of Greenbackville Road and a 2010 Kia traveling south was attempting to pass around the work area. Officials say the operator swerved back into its lane to avoid an oncoming vehicle, and the Kia drove through the work area and struck the two Public Works employees.
Tatterson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pusey was transported by a Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the Kia was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury and was being treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
The crash is still under investigation, and once the investigation concludes, representatives of the Sheriff’s Office and Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office will meet to determine what, if any, charges are appropriate, Schreier wrote in an email.
