Olin Denton, “Buddy” Hale, 72 of Brodnax, VA, formerly of Calvert County, passed away January 24, 2014. He was born April 24, 1941 in Baltimore to Olin Millard and Irma Annie (Soper) Hale. Buddy was raised in Baltimore and spent summers with his grandmother in Chesapeake Beach, until entering high school. As a teenager, he worked in a grocery store and sold newspapers at Pimlico Race Track. He graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School in June 1960. After graduating, Buddy worked as a Patternmaker. He enlisted in the United States Army on May 23, 1961 and served until April 24, 1967, when he completed his reserve obligation and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He was employed as a Construction Inspector for the Maryland State Highway Administration, and on July 1, 1968, he joined the Maryland State Police. Buddy retired from the police department as a Trooper First Class on March 31, 1987. After retirement, he worked as a Safety Consultant for various trucking companies. Buddy married Henrietta Engel on January 19, 1970 in La Plata. He was a member of the Maryland Trooper’s Association, Maryland State Police Alumni Association, American Legion, and several antique tools collector clubs. Buddy loved to do wood crafting, tinker with old trains, and work on rebuilding his old tractor. On Sundays, he would get together with his friends in Tanner Town.
 
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Irma Adelaide Mitchell, and a brother Thomas Millard Hale. He is survived by his wife Henrietta Engel Hale, a brother Talmage Langley “Lanny” Hale of Chesapeake Beach, and several nieces and nephews.
