FELTON – Kate Lavelle Flanagan left her demons behind and has gone to a place of peace and love on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017.
Kate was born on Dec. 7, 1968 in Cheverly, Md. to Talmadge Dewey Flanagan and Priscilla Ameila Jahn, of Florida. She was a graduate of Largo High School in 1987 in Maryland and then went on to graduate from the Maryland State Police Academy. She became a Maryland State Trooper in Prince George’s County. Kate would say being a Maryland State Trooper was the happiest time of her life. She was hurt on the job in 1992 and was retired on disability. After a long battle back she became a criminal court bailiff in Montgomery County, Md., a job she loved.
Kate is survived by both her parents; and her younger brother, Rory Rupert Flanagan of Baltimore, Md.; her chocolate lab, Blue Hunter, who was her pride and joy; and numerous family and friends.
Kate loved her dog, playing video games, and spending time with family and friends. She battled her demons every day and is now free of pain and at peace at last.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017 at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main St., Felton, DE 19943, where friends may call to bid her farewell.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kate’s memory can be made to: First State Animal Center and SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
