We regret to inform you of the death of Retired TFC Carl R. Valentine on Wednesday, December 6, 2017. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Valentine family and their friends at this difficult time. The following obituary information has been reprinted from Legacy.com.
Carl Richard ‘Dick” Valentine, Jr., 69, of Englewood, Florida passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at his Charlotte County residence with his loving wife, Barbara at his side.
He was born February 1, 1948 to the late Carl R. and Virgie V. (Shry) Valentine.
Upon graduation from Thurmont High School in 1966, he was employed by Moore Business Forms in Thurmont, Maryland, until entering the Maryland State Police Academy in January 1971. Dick was assigned to Barrack “B”, Frederick after graduation and spent his entire career there until his retirement in October 1987 due to medical reasons. Later he managed Bullock’s Airport Inn in Westminster, Maryland and Bentley’s Family Restaurant, Littlestown, Pennsylvania. He also drove for Cheetah Bulk Service of Keymar, Maryland. He and his wife owned and operated Richie’s Diner in Taneytown, Maryland. Upon selling the diner in 2009, they moved to St. Petersburg Beach, Florida to enjoy the beach life and then on to Englewood to become permanent residents.
Dick was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #69, Maryland Troopers Association, Lodge #51 and the Maryland State Police Alumni Association. He enjoyed archery and hunting as well as coaching youth baseball and soccer.
He was pre-deceased by his only son, Carl Richard “Richie” Valentine, III age 16, on December 28, 2005.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-nine years; Barbara A. (Bosley) Valentine of Englewood, Florida; two daughters: Cynthia Michelle Ridenour of Thurmont, Maryland, Lisa Sue Weaver of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania from his previous marriage to Charlene K (Frye) Valentine, who passed away in 1996. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Cory A. Smetzer, Justin T. Ridenour, Sarah B. Weaver, Brady M. Ridenour, Joshua D. Weaver, four great-grandchildren: Jacob E. Sanders, Cooper T. Ridenour, Maci J. and Sadie L. Ridenour; one brother and sister-in-law: Robert N. and Madeline Valentine of Thurmont, Maryland; and two nephews: Michael R. and Mark R. Valentine and their families.
At Dick’s request there will be no services scheduled.
