Kay S. Taylor, 84, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, Maryland.
She was born December 15, 1927 in Crisfield, a daughter of the late Cassie Dize Stevenson and George Riggin Stevenson.
Mrs. Taylor was appointed by Mrs. J. Millard Tawes as director of the Civil Air Patrol aircraft spotter post WWII, and was cited for logging more hours than any other spotter. She worked as a civil service employee in the administration building at the Naval Air Station in Chincoteague, Virginia; worked for the State of Maryland as a laboratory assistant at the seafood processing lab in Crisfield; worked at Peninsula Regional Medical Center; Wicomico County Health Department; and retired from the Maryland State Police as Police Communications Operator. After retirement, she returned to the Wicomico County Health Department as a part-time employee.
While residing in Crisfield she was active in numerous civic and fraternal organizations. She was also a 50 year member of the former Order of the Eastern Star, Chesapeake Chapter #28 and a member of the Maryland Troopers Association.
She is survived by a son, Edward “Steve” Taylor of Elkton, Maryland; two grandsons, Steven W. Taylor and his wife Amy and Ryan M. Taylor; a granddaughter, Julie Anne Taylor; two great granddaughters, Latisha Wright and Victoria Rose Taylor; two great grandsons, Gregory Wright and Mason Taylor; a brother, George Stevenson and his wife Marilyn of Georgetown; four nieces, Cassie Reed and her husband Eric, Brenda Kay Stevenson and her partner Randy Adams, Gail Diskerud and Kathy Stevenson; and very close friends, Sharon and Mark Stephenson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Taylor.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Crisfield Cemetery.
