Obituary for Dominick Anthony Balsoma, Jr.

 
On January 15, 2016, Dominick Anthony Balsoma, Jr., 72, passed away at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia. He was born in Baltimore, MD, on March 21, 1943, to the late Mary and Dominick Balsoma, Sr. Dominick earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Loyola College in Baltimore, graduating cum laude. He then went on to protect and serve as a 33 ½ year veteran of the Maryland State Police Department, where he achieved the rank of Major. Dominick was a lifelong Roman Catholic that had an avid interest in history, and he enjoyed cars and trucks, and spending time with his family. In recent years, he and his wife, Susan, made their winter home in Vero Beach, Florida. 
 
Dominick is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Susan V. Topper; his loving children, Christopher Joseph Balsoma and Shanna Elizabeth Smith, and her husband David L. Smith, III; his cherished grandchildren, Dominick A. Balsoma, Michele Balsoma, Savannah May Smith, and Stella Elizabeth Smith; his dear brother Marvin Balsoma and many nieces and nephews. Dominick was predeceased by his beloved sons, Thomas Craig Balsoma and Dominick A. Balsoma, III.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dominick’s name may be made to Gilchrist Hospice Care at gilchristhospice.org. Please designate to give to Gilchrist Center Howard County.
