Charles Edward “Buster” Bozman
PRINCESS ANNE — Charles “Buster” Bozman of Princess Anne went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011.
Born in Dames Quarter on Jan. 19, 1925, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary Bozman. Buster was a graduate of Deal Island High School, followed by entering the military with the U.S. Army. Buster served as an infantryman and was involved in the Normandy Beach invasion on D-Day. Following the invasion, Buster was an MP in the Army for three years. He ended his military service with five medals.
After his return home from the service, Buster joined the Maryland State Police, where he served for 25 years. Upon his retirement from the state police, Buster joined the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department, where he became a captain until he retired after 21 years of service.
He was a member of the Eastern Shore Baseball Foundation and in 2006 he was inducted into the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a member of Walker Memorial Church of God in Princess Anne, where he served as a trustee. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed playing golf. Nothing meant more to him than spending time with his large family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ada Jean Bozman, three children, Charles Bozman Jr. and his wife, Sherry, Beverly Powell and her husband, Rodwell, and Vickie Laird and her husband, Brian. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Rusty Bozman (Jennifer), Tracy Bozman Lewis (Robert), Brian Laird Jr., Katie Laird Travers, Matt Werth, Amy Prettyman ( Chad), Ashley Powell, Stephen Werth (Brittney) and Eric Laird; and eight great-grandchildren, James and Olivia Bozman, Kristin and Alyssa Lewis, Tori and Cadyn Travers, and Grant and Bailey Prettyman. He is also survived by his brother, Stanley Bozman (Gertrude), and sister-in-law, Margaret Bozman, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra; sister, Mary Webster (Earl); his brother Walter; and twin sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Walker Memorial Church of God on Friday at 1 p.m. Friends may call Thursday from 6-9 p.m. and Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at Walker Memorial Church of God in Princess Anne. The Rev. Tim Shawyer will officiate. Interment will follow in Ford Bozman Family Cemetery in Dames Quarter.
