We regret to inform you of the death of Monica Linn Bowers, wife of Retired Sergeant David K. Bowers, on Jamuary 31, 2014. We apologize for the late notification but we just learned of Monica’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bowers family and their friends. The following obituary information has been reprinted from the Osbourne Funeral Home website.
Clear Spring, MD – Monica Linn Bowers, 48, of Clear Spring, MD entered eternal life on Friday, January 31, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Her spirit is carried on by her loving husband David, three beautiful daughters; Bethany, Jennifer and Hannah and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life.
Monica was born on February 12, 1965 in Winchester, VA to Kenneth L. Newbraugh of Winchester, VA and Judith Gaye Smith Pennings of Berkeley Spring, WV.
Monica was a 1983 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and a 1988 graduate of Frostburg State University with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. She was a 2001 graduate of Frostburg State University with a Master of Arts in Teaching completing the Administrator I Endorsement in 2009.
Monica dedicated her life to honoring God and helping others. She had a heart of gold and focused her life on helping children and those in need. Monica was employed by Washington County Public Schools and served as the Principal of Hickory Elementary School. She loved educating children and worked tirelessly to make sure each child succeeded to the best of their ability. In addition to Hickory Elementary, her teaching career included positions at Winter Street, Clear Spring, Hancock and Lincolnshire Elementary Schools. Prior to her career in education Monica was a Program Director for Independent Living where she assisted disabled adults live independently in the Washington and Frederick Counties of Maryland.
Monica was a person of deep and personal faith and raised her daughters with love, devotion and commitment. She had a strong and lasting relationship with the love of her life, her husband, David. She was an excellent role model and mentor to the many young people she encountered throughout her life as well as an inspiration and source of encouragement to her friends and relatives.

Brother and Sister in Laws: John and Joanne Bowers; Janet and Duane Gigeous; Amy and Dave Thrailkill and their families.
Many loving nieces, nephews, friends and family who were all dear to her heart.
She was predeceased by her beloved grandparents Lynwood and Thelma Newbraugh and Glenn “Tink” and Virginia Smith as well as her cherished mother-in-law Mary Ann Bowers.
A memorial service will be held at Downsville Christian Church located at 8641 Downsville Pike Williamsport, MD 21795 on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 3:30 pm with Dr. D. Robert Chance and Rev. Craig Jones officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
