We regret to inform you of the death of Mrs. Josephine Daugherty, mother of MTA President Retired 1/Sgt. M. Kirk Daugherty on December 26, 2015.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Kirk and his family at this difficult time.  Funeral arrangements have been made with Parsell Funeral Home in Bridgeville, DE.  

Josephine “Jo” Matthews Daugherty, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2015, surrounded by her loving family at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, DE.  She was born on February 2, 1924 in Marumsco, MD, daughter of the late Amy (Marshall) Matthews and Grover Matthews. 

 
Mrs. Daugherty spent her early years in Crisfield, MD and finally settled in Bridgeville, DE in 1949.   She worked in sales until her retirement in 1980.  After her retirement, she and Millard relocated to Ajo, AZ returning to Bridgeville once again in 2004.  Mrs. Daugherty was a charter member of the Full Gospel Fellowship Church in Ajo, AZ.  She was also a charter member and former Sunday school teacher of the Lifeway Church of God in Bridgeville where she served as the church clerk for many, many years.
 
Mrs. Daugherty enjoyed flowers, cooking and baking for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She and her late husband, Millard, shared a passion for traveling and visited 47 states.  Most of all Mrs. Daugherty enjoyed spending time with her family.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and dear friend who will be missed by so many.
 
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Daugherty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 and half years, Millard Lee Daugherty, in 2012 and her brother, Lake Matthews.  She is survived by her two sons: Kirk and his wife Susan of Salisbury, MD and Steve and his fiancée Robin Taylor of Greenwood, DE; a daughter, Kaye Hoge’ and her husband Terry of Greenwood, DE; six grandchildren: Michael Daugherty of Princess Anne, MD; Kyle Daugherty and his wife Sheila of Greenwood, DE; Kelli Duncan and her husband William of Georgetown, DE; Amy Morris of Delmar, MD; Lindsay Taylor and her husband Josh of Delmar, DE; and Katelyn Casey and her husband Kyle of Seaford, DE; 4 step- grandchildren, Jan Danner, Pocomoke City, Md. Paxton Dulany (Lauren), Hebron, Md and Brittany Dulany, Ocean City, Md. and eight great-grandchildren.
 
A Celebration of Mrs. Daugherty’s Life will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at 1:00 PM, at the Lifeway Church of God, 7046 Seashore Highway, Bridgeville, DE 19933 where friends may visit beginning at 11:00 AM.  Interment will immediately follow funeral services at Bridgeville Cemetery, Bridgeville, DE.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Daugherty’s memory to the Lifeway Church of God Mortgage Fund, 7046 Seashore Highway, Bridgeville, DE 19933.
